Spotlight – Arash Aini
So, Arash, Why did you choose a career in Structural Engineering?
Construction/Engineering runs in the family, my grandfather was the Managing Director of a lead construction company and my father is also an Engineer. I’ve always had a passion for the built environment since a very early age.
What has been the most memorable moment?
My most memorable moment as an Engineer was working with a team of contractors, delivering innovative temporary works solutions, and overseeing works, some of which involved closing one of London’s most congested A roads.
What has been the most challenging part?
The most challenging part has been developing engineers with a view to develop their knowledge and general approach to problem solving and de-risking of designs.
What do you like most about your job?
Delivering efficiency through collaborative design and ensuring client satisfaction
What’s the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
Draw the Section! Always understand the problem in front of you by exploring it.
What’s your favourite structure in the world?
shah mosque, Isfahan.
And lastly, what is one of piece of advice you would give to someone starting out in Structural Engineering?
Don’t rush, take your time to understand the problem, visualise the problem and design/model once with clear consideration of the constraints at hand.
