Temporary works for demolition of the internal walls, floors and façade retention
Temporary works for demolition of the internal walls, floors and façade retention. The original buildings were destroyed by bombing during WW2 and rebuilt after the war. Due to this there was a large depth of made ground encountered onsite. The works involved removal of the existing party wall between the two properties. GSE provided a design and construction sequence for demolition and building of the new structure that involved the following:
Design of a façade retention system that is supported off two braced towers providing lateral stability to the façade in the temporary condition. Temporary support of façade to allow new steel frame to be installed.
We worked with the structural engineer and advised the contractor to provide a cost-effective solution where the vertical support of the structure was incorporated within the façade retention scheme. This provided clear working space at the lower and higher levels.
