Temporary and Permanent Works Design Engineer

Green Structural Engineering Ltd is a successful, rapidly expanding, award winning structural engineering consultancy based in South West London.

The company is actively growing its Temporary Works Department and as a result we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer to join our creative, innovative and dedicated team.

The role will include the design of both temporary works and permanent works.

Responsibilities will include:

• Providing temporary and permanent works design schemes for varied projects.
• Ensuring all designs adhere to the latest codes of practice, UK regulations and Company policies.
• Apply engineering knowledge to analyse the structural integrity of permanent and temporary works structures.
• Assess and design-out hazards where possible within the design process and propose effective control measures for the reduction and elimination of risk.
• Conduct site surveys, collect and assess site information, liaise with clients and site teams, as well as represent the Company at design and site meetings.
• Contribute to winning work by providing strong technical support to tenders by identifying innovative and cost effective strategies and design solutions.

The successful applicant will have:

• BEng/MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Ability to compile method statements and other documentation for formal submission.
• Understanding of construction methodology and design principles with specific reference to Temporary Works.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise with colleagues / external parties at all levels.
• Self-motivated and resilient with the ability to operate independently where required.

Civil Engineer

The company are seeking a new civil engineer at project to senior level, dependent on experience to add to our existing staff and assist with our growing workload. The successful candidate will have between 2-5 years of relevant UK civil engineering experience, be familiar with the use of industry standards and have proficiency in the use of software’s, including Autocad, Civil 3d and Microdrainage.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing full civil engineering packages, including highways, drainage and earthworks solutions.
  • Production of technical reports, including Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies.
  • Submission of Section 38/278 Highway Works, and Section 104/106/98/185 drainage works for technical approval.
  • Liaison with clients, councils, and other disciplines.
  • Review and audit of civil engineering designs.
  • Production and review of relevant specifications and surveys.

The applicant will be expected to attend site when required, represent the Company at design and site meetings and will eventually be expected to assist in winning work.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Knowledge of Building Regulations Part H, Suds Manual, BRE Digest 365 and other drainage standards.
  • Knowledge of Design Manuals for Roads and Bridges/ Manual for Streets.
  • Competent in the use of Autocad, Civil 3d and associated extensions, such as AutoTrack.
  • Competent in the use of Microdrainage and/or other drainage modelling software.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
