Refurbishment and extension of existing school buildings and construction of new multi-use school buildings
Education – Feltonfleet School
Feltonfleet School is an independent day and weekly boarding co-educational preparatory school for children, with a 400-pupil capacity. The new facilities will fulfil the school’s curriculum for 480 pupils providing valuable teaching accommodation as pupil numbers increase.
The development at Feltonfleet School included the construction of new Music and Memorial Hall building, Art and Design & Technology building, Headmasters house, rifle range, storage shed, and refurbishment works to existing buildings.
Extensive construction works are proposed with new buildings ranging from one to two storeys high and providing an extra 1,426 m2 of floor space. The new two storey Music and Memorial Hall building is to be constructed using concrete flat slab. The new two storey Art and Design & Technology building is constructed as a steel frame with precast concrete floors.
During design development, the client requested reduced construction costs for the new school buildings. GSE, in liaison with the architect, reduced the construction costs by £0.5m. This was achieved by using a steel frame and masonry walls instead of concrete frame and walls for the new Art and Design & Technology building. This significantly reduced build time and costs.
We won this project based on our previous track record of successfully completing other school projects within time and budget constraints.
